Della Reese was a singer, an actress, a talk-show host and a minister who left a pretty indelible imprint in each of these spaces before her passing in late 2017. Della's voice has this beautiful vibrato and her singing style is so rhythmic and contolled. I remembered first hearing the Benny Goodman version of this tune on cassette in the back seat of my Pops' Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser. I spent a *lot* of time in this bonafide chick magnet of a vehicle with my Dad soaking in his own love affair with the crooners and diva's of his day. Honestly, I forgot about this version for several years, but once I was reunited with it I couldn't put it down. This song is from her self-titled record released in 1960, a year after her big hit "Don't You Know". I tried to retain the playfulness of this performance and it's really the only track on my album with the same name where I kept the general melodic structure the same.
